My Investment Of Time In 2022

By Raddy in Other ·

Let me first introduce myself, my name is Raddy and I am a Freelance Web developer and Content Creator.

In this article, I want to talk about where my investment of time is going in 2022 and my reasoning behind it. I am hoping that this article helps you to make a choice of your own and maybe even inspire you. I know that everybody is at a different point in their life and some of the things that I will talk about might not apply to you.

Making Progress

To me, life and business, in general, is about making progress. Web Development can be an overwhelming profession. There is an unlimited amount of things that you can do and learn which is also what makes Web Development great. We have so many new tools, languages and frameworks, methodologies, processes it can be overwhelming especially if you are just getting started. I feel like “the basics” are no longer basic anymore. It’s fairly easy to write bad HTML or CSS. Just picking up a JavaScript framework to use can be an extremely overwhelming process on its own. And that’s the Paradox of Choice I guess.

Learning to choose is hard. Learning to choose well is harder. And learning to choose well in a world of unlimited possibilities is harder still, perhaps too hard.

– Barry Schwartz in his book The Paradox of Choice 1

Many of us get paralysed by choices. Are we making the right decision? How much time will it take? Can I do it? Will I like it? What do people think of it? Can I get a job knowing it? – These are questions that I am sure many of us ask ourselves and are also totally relevant. Nobody likes to waste their time anymore unless you are scrolling on TikTok of course.

Intent VS Impact

Soon I will “expose” what I am going to learn and do in 2022. But before we do that I wanted to quickly talk about Intent vs Impact.

There’s an old proverb that states, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions,” meaning that while intentions might be good, without proper follow-through, the impact can still be bad.

My question to you is what are your intentions for this year?

  • Are you going to learn a new language, framework or tool?
  • Are you focused on personal development and maybe even business?
  • Are you looking to get a job?
  • Are you looking to be promoted?

I think that once you have your intentions in place, hopefully, the choice will be easier to make. Obviously, the next step would be to take action. I can’t tell you what to do, but I am personally an overthinker so the perfect ratio might be 20% intent and 80% action. If I don’t do that, then I’ll probably get stuck in a loop of overthinking everything.

Personal Intent and the Impact

My personal intent for 2022 is to fully focus on my business, build relationships and build multiple income streams. My intention is to improve my personal life, have the opportunity to help others and be useful and help contribute to society.

There is a saying that “It doesn’t matter how hard you row it’s about what boat you are in” and that can’t be further from the truth. This saying can apply to pretty much everything from business, to web development and personal life.

Investment of time

I don’t want to only focus on what’s new and exciting to learn, but I also want to look into what is my current skill stack and what are my deficiencies.

Technical Skills

I am heavily going to continue to invest my time in Web Development. It’s what I love doing and how I make all of my money. Here are the languages and tools that I would like to invest my time in:

  • Svelte / SvelteKit
  • ECMAScript 2022
  • A-Frame
  • Solana Blockchain Development
  • Ethereum

and I would like to also keep on top of the following:

  • Angular
  • Ionic
  • Firebase
  • WordPress
  • Node.Js & Express
  • Overall Website Design, Accessibility and Usability

Here are the trends that I am going to look out for:

  • Blockchain
  • VR
  • Machine Learning
  • NFT

Personal Development & Business

I am pretty much going to continue doing what I am already:

  • Focusing on Health & Fitnes
  • Relationships
  • Listening to audio books & Podcasts
  • Reading Articles
  • Writing Articles
  • Making YouTube Videos

Conclusion

All of this said, there needs to be a good work-life balance. I’ve been able to balance my work-life balance for years and this is why I never feel burned out and tired of doing what I am doing. Family and friends are the most important thing, so make sure that you spend a lot of time with them, especially now.
